I am interested in the timeless visual beauty and power of the female figure. Throughout human history the female form has been used as a symbol of nature, creation, spiritualism, resurrection, death, and mysticism. This idea not only persists over time but throughout various cultures. My sculptures are reminiscent of this rich history. I use both alabaster and clay to create the essence of the female form.
My alabaster figures are hand chiseled and sanded. The stone often tells me through its size and shape what composition the female form will take. Some of the alabaster sculptures rest on hand made pillows, other stand independent of any base.
My clay works are primarily of the female torso. I construct the forms from several slabs of clay and then use various glazing and firing techniques.
